Change the settings of Network Adapter
What are tips to modify the settings of Network Adapter?
Network Adapter refers to a tool used for connecting several computers together. You can use this to get connection between your home, or small office to the network interface. There are a number of settings associated with the Network Adapter. One of these settings includes the Network Adapter binding. Network Adapter binding order allows prioritizing which connection programs use. This becomes useful while you are using multiple Network Adapters in the system. Programs running on Windows will send the traffic over the first adapter in the binding order list with the binding order setting. Another setting associated with the Network Adapter is its name. The naming of Network Adapter is useful in securing the connection from hackers. Each of these Network Adapter settings can be changed simply within the system itself using Device Manager and System registry.
Here are some methods for changing the settings for Network Adapter:
- Change the Binding Order
- Change a Network Adapter Name
- Change using Device Manager
Change the Binding Order
You can try changing the binding order on the Network Adapter. To do this, you need to access the Control Panel from the Start Menu of the system first. You need to select 'Network and Internet' and select 'View Network Status and Tasks'. Click the 'Change Adapter Settings' link in the 'Network and Sharing Center' window. In the 'Advanced' menu, select the 'Advanced Settings'. Next step is to click the 'Adapters and Bindings' tab and get the 'Connections'. You can then select the name of a connection. Finally, select up-arrow and down-arrow icons at the right side of the list and change the order.
Change a Network Adapter Name
You can use the Regedit to change the Network Adapter name. To do this, you need to access the Start Menu of the system and type in ‘regedit’ in the 'Run' prompt. It will bring up the registry editor for the system. In the registry editor window, select the HLM folder and navigate to the USB folder under CurrentControlSet Enum. You can then open the DeviceInstanceID subkey. Select the 'Enable Hidden Devices' option. Finally, change the name of the Network Adapter on the 'FriendName' subkey.
You can use the Device Manager of the system to change other Network Adapter settings. To do this, you need to select the 'My Computer' icon on the 'Start' menu of the system and right-click the icon to get its properties. It will bring up the System Properties box, in which you need to select the Hardware tab. You can then select the 'Device Manager' icon. There, you can select different tabs and can make changes like Power management and Resources and connectivity settings etc.
