Reasons why a local area connection will not connect
What are the reasons due to which a local area network will not connect? What are the ways to solve this problem?
Local Area Network (LAN) is the kind of network that can supply networking facility to a group of systems in close proximity to each other, for instance in an office building, a school, or a home. A LAN is very helpful to share resources like files, printers, games or other applications. But there are several things that might make a Local Area Network connection on a computer faulty. These reasons range from outdated software to defective or unsuited hardware. There are also other reasons that cause problems with connectivity of a LAN. The reasons also include erroneous browser settings, incorrect Ethernet cable connection or simply a lost network password. These problems are usually simple to recognize and users can easily solve these issues by running through a few quick steps. Wireless LAN problem can ruin productivity during any Internet-based work.
Given below are the issues that result in a connection failure with a Local Area Network and the ways to solve the problem:
- Check power cable
- Check the Ethernet connection
- Refresh IP
Check the power cable
First of all, you need to check the power cable for the router. If it is not properly connected, you need to plug it in correctly. If the cable is spoiled, you need to replace it. Most routers come with status lights that indicate if a connection is active or not. If you fail to notice any indicator lights, there is a possibility that the router is not receiving enough power. So in order to solve the problem you need to replace the cable with a proper one.
Check the Ethernet connection
Issues with the Ethernet connection may also lead to issues with LAN. You need to check your Ethernet cable connection. You have to connect the cable to a numbered slot on your router, it will not function if it is plugged into the slot labeled "WAN." You have to check both ends of the connection, the system and the router. If the cable is slack at either end, you are not able to connect to the Internet. If both cables are connected correctly, the Ethernet cable may get faulty. A properly connected Ethernet card also contains indicator lights that flash as active.
If you cannot solve the issue with the above given steps then the issues is with conflicts. Sometimes two devices on your network are attempting to use the same IP number to recognize themselves to the router. You can check it by right-clicking on the Ethernet adapter under the Control Panel, and choosing 'Repair' or 'Repair Connection' from the menu that pops up.
