Set-up Local Area Network Connection on Windows® 7
How to set-up local area network connection on Windows 7?
Windows 7 is the latest version of Windows operating system series. The operating system is completely compatible and has very light components with new features. These components and features help in performing everyday tasks easily and it is user-friendly as well. Advanced features available in Windows 7 include advances in touch and recognition of handwritten documents and high performance ratio on multi-core processors. Users can also disable different Windows components that could not be possible in Windows Vista. Some of the functionality in the older versions was removed in Windows 7. It has 32-bit or 64-bit versions that support graphic cards that meet minimum hardware requirements.
Following are the methods to set-up local area network connection on Windows 7 and points to keep in mind while setting up:
- Create Workgroup
- Give your IP Address
- Points to keep in Mind
To set-up the local area network connection on Windows 7, you need to first create a workgroup. Go to ‘My Computer’ and then right-click and select ‘Properties’. Then click on ‘Change Settings’ link in the ‘Computer Name, Domain and Workgroup Settings’ area. On the window that appears, click on the ‘Computer Name’ tab, and click on the ‘Change’ button. In the window that appears, type your Computer Name as well as the Workgroup in the space provided. You will then receive a message to restart the computer so that your Workgroup can be created.
Give your IP Address
You need to provide your IP address in order to perform the ‘Local Area Network Connection’ set-up. For this go to ‘Control Panel’ and click ‘Network and Internet’. After that choose the ‘Network and Sharing Center’ and then choose ‘HomeGroup’. Click on ‘Advance Sharing Settings’ where you find two sharing types — ‘Home to Work’ and ‘Home to Public’. From ‘Home to Work’ you need to select ‘Turn on Network Discovery’ and turn on ‘File and Printer Sharing’. You need to then click ‘Change Adapter Setting’. Now set-up your IP and click use the DNS server address.
In most business networks, users who prefer to access the network should login by applying their user account and password. If you have many users who access your network and you want to control the access to the data on it, you must set up permissions for accessing the files and folders. If you have a large number of users to access, then only you need to create a Workgroup.
