Another option to map the network drive is from the command prompt of Windows operating system. In order to map the drive, open the 'Start' menu and type 'CMD' and press 'Enter' key. Type "net use z: /persistent: yes servernameshare" and press 'Enter'. We can type the name of different hard drives in this command according to our choice. We can choose next available drive letter available which is currently not mapped to anything by using '*'. The 'persistent' in the command indicates that the mapping is permanent, which persists after rebooting. We can also use the IP address of the workstation or server if we want.
There may be errors while mapping the network drive in Windows 7 system. In some cases you will get an error message when trying to map the network drive. This can be resolved by opening 'Administrative Tools' in the 'Control Panel' and selecting 'Local Security Policy', and then clicking on 'Security Option' under 'Local Policy'.
