A network connection is a method to connect a system to any other on the network. A network connection is the way through which computers get access to various resources they need online. With this, computers are connected to other computers through the means of modems. Examples of modems are cable, DSL, telephone, etc. It is a physical connection between the hosting system and the network. Internet Connection Sharing is the capability of a network of two or more systems to share a single network connection. About network connection sharing
Sometimes you may want to access some file any of the systems in your office, and if that system is not connected to the network, then you cannot access that file from your system. Thus, network connection sharing is needed. You can share your network connection to any other system. Using an ad-hoc wireless LAN connection, you can use network connection sharing with any computer you need. Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) can permit a local network of Windows computers to successfully share a single network connection. ICS functions as a client and server model. For setting up ICS, one computer must be selected as the server.
Internet Connection Sharing utility
Internet Connection Utility (ICS) is one utility that can be used to share a network connection. This utility is to be installed on your system and that system is called the host computer, which is connected to the network and which has a separate connection to the other systems on your network. Then you enable ICS on a network connection. The other systems on your network then connect to the host computer, and from there to the network, all the way through the host system’s shared network connection. The designated computer must support two network interfaces, one directly connected to the network and the other associated with the remainder of the LAN. ICS integrates a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server that permits clients to access their local addresses automatically, rather than manually.
To start network connection sharing, you need to enter to Control Panel followed by 'Local Area Connection'. You can see 'Change settings of this connection' option in 'Network Tasks' under the Connection tab. You need to select the 'Establish a network connection whenever a computer on my network attempts to access the Internet' option. You can either permit all users to share the network connection or only specific users. Under Internet Connection Sharing option, you will see 'Home Networking Connection' option and by selecting this option, you can start network connection sharing.
