Computer networks are widely used because there are lots of advantages in forming a computer network. Each computer in network is given an IP address which is the identity of a computer in the network. Every computer should have a Unique IP address of same IP class to communicate with each other in the network. IP address is also known as Network address. Wireless routers are used to setup wireless networks and wireless routers also have an IP address. The IP address of the router is assigned as Gateway address for the computers in the network. Once the network gateway address is specified, the computer connects to that particular device or computer to avail services or network. In short the network address is the address of a computer in the network and the Gateway address is the address of another computer or device which is capable of serving different network services.

Through Network Properties
To find IP details and network gateway address, you must click on 'Start' button and then go to 'Control Panel' and then to 'Network Connections' depending on your operating system. Here, you need to right click on the Local area connection and click on 'Properties'. Now, you need to select 'TCP/IP' and again click on 'Properties'. The TCP/IP properties screen would display the IP address and the gateway address of the computer. You can even change the IP settings from the TCP/IP Properties screen.

Once the network card is installed on the computer, you will find a network connection icon in the system tray which indicates the network connectivity status. You can double click on the network icon and click on details. A window with all the IP address related information including Network gateway address, DHCP settings, DNS address, etc. pops open once you click on the details button.
To find the IP address and the gateway address of a computer, you can go to command prompt and type in the command "IPCONFIG /ALL" and hit 'Enter'. The IPCONFIG/ALL command will display the IP address, DNS server address, DHCP settings and Network gateway address. To exit the command prompt, you can type "Exit" and hit 'Enter'.
