Advantages of network printer sharing over a network
What are the positives of network printer sharing? What are the methods to configure and set-up printer sharing on a network?
Printers are very useful and important nowadays. Having a printer at home helps you in taking printouts of necessary documents right at home itself. But it becomes difficult when you need to transfer the printer from one system to another to take prints from different systems. This situation can be tackled by making the printer a shared printer. To do so, you need to make your printer a shared printer. Then you must signify a network path from each computer to the printer, to enable this feature. You also need to install printer software on those computers to make them fit for sharing a printer. So with this option, data from different computers can be sent to the host computer and printouts can be taken.

Setting up printer sharing
In order to make the printer a shared printer, from the Start menu you need to click 'Printers and faxes' option. Now you need to right-click on your 'Printer' icon and then select 'Sharing' option from the list displayed. Then click on 'Network Setup wizard' and follow the onscreen instructions. Select 'Share this printer' option and enter the name of the printer in 'Share' name box. Then by clicking 'Ok' the process is completed.
After completing the process with the host computer, then you need to configure the remaining computers on the network. First, you must install driver software on the client computer and then select 'Printers and Faxes' option on Start menu. Right-click on the 'Printer' icon and select 'Properties'. Then you need to click on 'Ports' tab and select 'Add port' option. Then in the next window select 'Local port' followed by clicking on 'New port'. In the corresponding dialog box enter name of the computer connected to printer or name of the printer. Next, in the Ports tab, you need to check whether the new port is added and check box is selected or not. Click 'Ok' and the configuration is set.
Sometimes if the system requirements are not met, then sharing is not possible. If an issue occurs, then make sure if the system requirements are met or not. In some cases firewall settings of the host computer may stop the sharing process, so make sure that 'File and Printer Sharing' check box of the host computer is selected. Another reason is that if host computer name and printer name are not entered correctly, then sharing is not possible. So you need to make sure that the printer name and host computer name are entered correctly.
