Ways to configure NAT settings of Linksys® router
Linksys routers provide you with a number of different features that make them a popular. One such feature is Network Address Translation (NAT). By making use of NAT, the router associated with your network can take a single connection from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and split it up into a number of different signals, so that you can have multiple systems sharing the same connection. If it happens to add a system to your network or change some of the network services on a computer, you need to alter your Linksys NAT settings. In computer networking, network address translation is the process of changing network address information in datagram (IP) packet headers while its movement across a traffic routing device for the aim of re-mapping one IP address space into a different one.
- Note the IP address
- Log in to the web browser
- Select the protocol
Note the IP address
The first step to configure Network Address Translation settings associated with Linksys router is to note the IP address. To note it, you need to type ‘cmd.exe’ in the Run textbox. This opens a new command window. There you have to type, ‘ipconfig’. By doing so, you will see an IP address which is in the form of four numbers which are separated by dots.
Log in to the web browser
Next you need to open up the web browser and type ‘http: //192.168.1.1’. There you will be asked to type the log in and associated password. If the default settings are not changed, you can log in by typing the user name as ‘admin’ and password as ‘password’. This will help you to enter the set-up page and can make the necessary changes to configure the NAT settings of Linksys router.
The protocol has to be selected for changing the Network Address Translation settings. It can be either HTTP or FTP. Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) is associated with web services, whereas FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. Then you need to type the IP address of the system that was previously noted. Finally you need to click on the 'Apply' button after selecting the TCP/UDP option. By following all these steps, you can easily configure the Network Address Translation settings for a Linksys router.
