When you are exposing your internal network, you direct traffic to a certain Internet protocol address in such a way that an outside user is directed to a machine that you have configured to control access. It is possible to set-up a DMZ on a Linksys by enabling the router’s forwarding to an internal machine that is present on the network. DMZ offers a single network device, that is gaming console or personal computer, to be completely outside of the hardware firewall, that means all its ports are accessible to the Internet.

Demilitarized zone
The DMZ provides only one Internet protocol address (system) to be exposed to the Internet. It is recommended that you set your system with a static IP, if you want to use DMZ. This feature is very useful for devices that require a lot of ports and are difficult to configure with a firewall in place. Such as connecting a game console to the Internet, applications include hosting a server, or allowing an application that is having connection conflicts because of the firewall.
Configure DMZ in Linksys router
You have to open a web browser and navigate to the router’s console by entering the IP address. After you reach the router’s console, you will be prompted for an admin password. Then, you need to click ‘Security’ and scroll down to the bottom where there is a drop-down box labeled ‘DMZ’ and then select ‘Enable’. Then, enter an IP address for the destination computer. It can be a remote desktop machine, web server or any machine that requires access from the Internet. Then, click the ‘Save Settings’ button and close the router’s console.
You have to navigate to the router’s homepage by entering its IP address in your Internet browser and click on the ‘Gaming menu and Applications’ on the left-hand side of the screen. Then, select the ‘DMZ’ option from the drop-down menu. Then you have to select ‘Enable’ from the DMZ options and enter the IP for the device that you want exposed to the Internet in the DMZ Host IP field. After that you have to click ‘Apply’.
