Configure Comcast® Modem
How to configure Comcast Modem?
A modem is an electronic device that is used for encoding and decoding of digital information with analog carrier signals for the transmission and reception of signals. Comcast is one among the leading modem manufacturers and suppliers in the world. While configuring a Comcast modem, it is advised to use only the items given by the company including the Ethernet cable, USB cable and installation CD, to make your computer compatible with Comcast. It may take some time to set-up all the components. Cable Internet providers keep a database of accounts allowed to access their resources. The cable company verifies that the MAC address on each modem is attached to an active Internet account before allowing modem access to the Internet. Configuration is the process of associating a specific modem with a valid cable Internet account to enable it to access the network.
Following are the methods to configure Comcast Modem:
- Self-Install Kit Configuration
- Manual configuration
- Default method
Self-Install Kit Configuration
Connect the cable modem to the cable network with the coaxial cable provided with the modem and plug in the cable modem's adapter into available wall outlet. Then, connect the cable modem to the system using the particular Ethernet cable and power on the cable modem. Wait for one minute for the initialization of the modem. Power on the computer and log in. Insert the CD that came with the self-install kit into the optical drive of the computer. Run the software on the self-install kit CD. Follow the on-screen instructions to activate your cable modem and initialize your cable Internet connection.
You can manually configure the modem in this method. As usual, the first step is the connection of the modem using the given coaxial cable. Plug the cable modem's AC adapter into an available wall outlet. Connect the cable modem to the system using the particular Ethernet cable and power on the cable modem. Wait for a minute for the initialization of the modem. Now, activate a modem on your cable Internet account. Add the modem to your account. Restart your computer after this process. Connect to a couple of websites to verify that you have a live Internet connection.
The right configuration method consists of modem set-up and CD installation. Connect one end of the cable to a cable outlet. Connect the other end to the cable port, located in the back of the Comcast modem and plug the power cord into an electrical outlet. Plug the other end into the port, located in the back of the modem. Plug the end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port, located in the back of the Comcast modem. Plug the other end into the Ethernet port in the computer. Insert the Ethernet installation CD and install the Ethernet's driver. Exit the program after installation. Plug the USB adapter into the USB port in the back of the Comcast modem. After that, insert the Comcast Cable Modem Installation CD. A pop-up installation screen will launch.
