How to Install NETGEAR® Router
Wired networks were used in offices and institutions to share data and other system resources. The invention of wireless technology brought the concept of wireless network and now days, wireless networks are used by many computer users who have more than one computer. Each computer in the network needs a wireless network card to send and receive wireless signals. A NETGEAR wireless router needs to be configured in the network through which all computers communicate with each other. Once the wireless network card is installed you can click on the network icon in the system tray to see the signal strength. You can share data with all or selected users in the network without any limitation of wires. Anyone who enters the network range with a computer which has a wireless network card can configure the network and be the part of the network. The installation of NETGEAR router is easy and does not take a long time.
- Right Location
- Setup NETGEAR router settings
- Setting up computers
The wireless network works on wireless signals. So, better the network signals are stable your network connection is. You need to place the router in such a location where distance between each computer to NETGEAR router is almost same. So, all computers receive proper network signals and your network works without any issues. Router is the critical component of your network. If NETGEAR router goes off or encounters any critical issue, the entire network fails. So, make sure that you provide an uninterrupted power supply to the router.
Access NETGEAR router page
NETGEAR routers have a firmware program which stores all router settings and allows you to change the router settings, according to your network needs. You need to open up an Internet browser and type in the routers IP address to access the router setup page. You are prompted to enter a user name and the password. Once you log in to NETGEAR router page, you can set SSID and change the router settings like – DHCP, Internet sharing and security settings etc. and then save the settings. If the router setup page does not come up after entering the IP address, you can physically connect the router to a computer using a network cable. Set the computer to obtain the IP address from DHCP and restart the computer. Once the computer is restarted, you can access the router settings page.
Once the router is configured, set up the wireless network on computers that needs to be the part of the network. You need to install the driver program from the wireless network card. You can open up the 'Network connection' or 'network and sharing center' in 'Control panel' depending on the operating system and run a wireless network setup wizard. You will be prompted to enter the SSID and once you enter the SSID correctly your computer becomes the part of the network. SSID is the identity of your network that you set on the router. Anyone who knows the SSID can make his computer a part of your wireless network.
