How To Add Access Point in NETGEAR® Wireless Router
Wireless network has changed the way how computers network work. In early days network cables and HUB/switch were used to interconnect computers but with the invention of the wireless technology, there is no need of wires to form a network. Most of the new computers come up with wireless network card and even if do not have a wireless network card, you can buy one and install it on the computer. A NETGEAR wireless router or access point is used as a center point of communication in a wireless network. A NETGEAR wireless router or access point can transmit wireless signals with in upto 30.5 meters. A router works like a server. It is capable of running many network services like DHCP, DNS etc. where as the access point just works as a point of access for the computers in the network, every computer in the network communicates with each other through the access point. It provides the network connectivity and share the Internet connection if the Internet sharing is configured. If you have a larger network, you may use both access point and router to boost up the network signals and make the communication more effective.

Setting up NETGEAR router and access point
NETGEAR access point and the router both are used in the same network when you have a large network. You need to connect the router and access point physically to the computer using a network cable, set the IP address of the computer to obtain from DHCP and then you can access the configuration page of the router and access point by typing in the IP address of the router/access point. You have to configure both one at a time. Make sure that the IP address of the access point and the router is not the same. If they are same you need to change the IP address of either one device.
Placement of the access point
We use access point and the router in the same network to improve the signal strength. So, split the group of computers in to two and place the NETGEAR router in a central position of first group and place the access point in the central position of the other group. Place the computers in such a way that the distance between each computer to the router or to the access point is almost the same.
Both access point and NETGEAR router has an option to connect the network cable. So, once the router and access point is configured, you can connect the router to the access point using a network cable. Once they are connected, you need to access the configuration page of both devices and add the IP address of the router to the access point’s gateway and vice versa. Now, your NETGEAR network is ready to use.
