Router Port Forwarding
When users need to connect multiple systems through a single network, router is the right device. A router is the device that connects multiple systems through a single network. Router is considered as one of the most feasible devices for the connectivity of systems. This is very essential for any business environment. Sharing data and files are common and very necessary. So, router is the secure device to ensure the users security. Port forwarding is done through router to forward data. There are certain simple methods to follow for port forwarding through router.

What is port forwarding?
Every computer has an IP address and a port number. The system is identified using the address and the number. The port number is used to forward data internally. The port number can identify only the internal port number and can share data through it. External data, to say sharing data from one system to another system which is not connected to the network is possible through external IP address. Router has the internal IP address, when an Internet connected computer needs to share data with another computer, the gateway in the computer process the data. This gateway is the internal IP address of router.
How is port forwarding carried out in router?
Computer with an internal IP address cannot read data from another computer. So, it cannot send data to an external system. So, the gateway is used to forward data to an external system. Gateway is the internal IP address of the router. So, router enables the computer to send the data to another system through the network. The data is forwarded out of the external IP address. The same applies for an external system. The system with an external IP address cannot send data internally. So, the computer sends the data to the external IP address of the router. And, port forwarding guides router as to which computer on the network to forward the data. When you set up the port forwarding rules, the data is forwarded to the external IP address of the router and then it is sent to the Internal IP address of the router.
Though, port forwarding is an easy process of forwarding data through the network with the help of router, there are certain points to be remembered. A port has its own set of rules, and you can send data using only one port at a time. For example, when computer A is activated with port 500 with an internal IP address, then the external IP address of port 500 is also in use. So, you can send data using only one port with an IP address. Using it in two systems would bring problems, as port forwarding follows the simple rule, ‘one program at a time’. And, the port forwarding rules will also be activated to only one computer at a time.
