Methods to Reset a SMC® Router
It is possible that the SMC router used in your system can lose its ability to provide a fast Internet connection. You may need to reset the router to resolve the issue. If you are not getting an Internet connection, then you may need to reset the router. Resetting is needed to set the password of the router to its default. You may not need to consult a technician or ISP for resetting the router. You can do it yourself with some simple steps. But, you need to take care of some points while doing so. You need to provide good security settings to the router and make use of the administrator privileges to avoid security issues. You can use the reset action only if other troubleshooting actions have failed.

Using Manual Pin Reset
You can use the Manual Pin Reset method to reset a SMC router. For this, you need to remove all the cables other than the power cord first. After the removal is complete, locate the COM port at the back of the unit and find pins three and eight from the left to right direction. You then need to switch off the Barricade and hold the clip by touching the third and eighth pins with a paper clip. When the Barricade is on, check that the M1 light blinks eight times. It will then resume to its normal speed once per second blinking pattern. You need to then remove the paper clip and turn off the Barricade. After reconnecting all the cables, you will reset a SMC router.
Using Reset button
You can also try some other steps to reset the SMC router. You can try holding the Reset button while the Barricade is on and turn off the router at the same time. Then you need to continue to hold the Reset button and turn the router on. Then, wait for five seconds to release the Reset button. This will also help to reset the router password.
Things to be kept in mind
You need to reset the router only after reading the user manual of the SMC router. You need to check whether any software is blocking your reset process. If so, you need to disable that particular software and continue with the router reset process. It is also very essential to check the router driver and also make sure that it is not corrupt in order to reset your SMC router properly.
