Default password for TP-LINK® router
TP-LINK routers are used to set-up wireless networks and to share an Internet connection. You can install wireless network adapters on your computers and set-up a wireless TP-LINK router on the network and use the wireless network with no problems. A firmware program is embedded on TP-LINK routers which runs various network services and holds router settings. To change any settings of the router, you need to access the firmware page of the router. Anyone who can access the firmware page can change the router settings which will affect the network. So, to avoid unauthorized access to the firmware, a password and user name is set in the firmware. Anyone who tries to access the firmware page has to enter the right user name and the password before access is granted. The default user name is 'admin' and the password is also 'admin'.

Accessing the firmware page
To change the default password of the router, you need to open the firmware page of the router by typing in the IP address of the router on Internet Explorer. By default, TP-LINK router's IP address is 192.168.1.1. If it has been changed, you can run the command 'IPCONFIG' in Command Prompt and find out the gateway address. Gateway address displayed on the IPCONFIG window is the IP address of the router. Sometimes, you need to connect the router directly to a computer using a network cable to access the firmware page. This process will launch the firmware program on your screen.
Changing the password
Firmware will ask you for the default login ID and password. You can enter the user name as 'admin' and password as 'admin'. The user name and the password are authenticated, and the access to change settings is granted. You can click on 'Management', then 'Access Control' and then on password to 'Change the Password'. You will be prompted to enter the user name, old password and new password. You can enter this information and click on 'Save' and then on 'Apply'.
Changing the default password is a simple process but sometimes when you try to log into the router configuration page, access is denied, either because the password entered is incorrect or the firmware program has a bug. You can press the 'Reset' button on the router to reset TP-LINK router's settings to default. The resetting process will restore all the settings including the router password to their defaults.
