Fix TRENDnet® router access point
TRENDnet router is one of the most efficient and stable wireless routers. You can install a TRENDnet router in a network where all computers have wireless network cards and you can easily set up a wireless network. Access point and routers both can transmit and receive signals to form a wireless network. They become the central point of communication in the network. Apart from the role of an access point, wireless routers can serve Internet connection for all the node computers that connect to the router. In some networks you may require wireless router and the access point to expand the wireless network, to set access point for the visitors or guest, to boost the wireless network range etc. You can fix a wireless access point in a location where the range of the wireless router ends and all computers that connect to the access point will have access to the service that the wireless router offers. All the computers connected to the router and the access point becomes one network and all the shared resources can be used by all network users based on their user privilege. Access points are more costly than a TRENDnet wireless router. So, if you have a spare TRENDnet router, you can make the TRENDnet wireless router work as access point.
- Change IP address
- Disable DHCP and IP forwarding
- Issues and fixes
Change IP address
Both routers will have an IP address and most probably they will have the same IP address. You need to change the IP address of the router that you are going to set as an access point. First, you need to connect the router directly to the computer using a network cable. Then open Internet Explorer and type in the IP address of the router. The firmware page would come up and you will be prompted to enter a user name and the password. Once you enter the user name and the password, you can change the IP address of the router. You can set an IP that is not same as the router’s IP but it should be of the same range.
Disable DHCP and IP forwarding
DHCP is a service that runs in a computer or in router to serve IP address to computers that connects to the network. You need to disable the DHCP and IP forwarding service of the router that you wish to set up as an access point. Once you disable those services, the other router will serve the IP address to all computers and the second router will work as an access point. You can fix the second router in a location where the range of the first router ends and the second router will work as an access point.
IP conflict is one major issue that is found during the setting up of a router as an access point. To avoid such issues, you need to ensure that no device or computers in the network have the same IP address. To obtain better network signal for an healthy network, place the wireless router in a central location of the network and fix the access point where the network range of the router ends. You can even adjust antennas of both routers for better signals.
